What is the maximum number of students at your school?
-
We have two full time certified teachers and one teaching assistant. This year, we will allow a maximum of 15 students, so we keep a 3:1 student to adult ratio for personalized learning.
-
What kind of grades do you offer? How do you know students are learning?
-
We offer grades for each child, though based on different data points than public schools. We set growth goals with your child and meet with them on a weekly basis to check in and see how they are progressing. Each student will also be in charge of managing a portfolio. We work with each student to set goals each quarter based on national and state standards in all core areas.
-
How does this school prepare students for a traditional college?
-
Starting in the middle school year, we ask the students to pair up with a mentor in the community. They work to learn from that mentor and spend an increasing amount of hours learning from that mentor each year. In high school, students are encouraged to choose a mentor/internship in a different field of study.
-
Is technology integrated into your schooling? How much?
-
Technology is part of our future. As such we integrate it into our school day. Students will be asked to use technology to assist in learning, but it is not a way to fulfill all aspects of learning.
-
What is a parent's role at NCA?
-
Parents serve an essential role at NCA, primarily to encourage and cheer on their child in his or her's educational goals. Teach it is okay to make mistakes and to learn from them. No fundraising or volunteer hours are required at our school, though we always encourage and welcome parent volunteer help!
-
Are there before and after-care options?
